Rooney's deceleration in the final stages meant the team qualified fourth fastest and he apologised to his team-mates for letting the lead slip. 'I would like to apologise to the guys for not winning it, said Rooney. was checking my right-hand side and didn't see him (Trinidad and Tobago's Deon Lendore) coming. He is a sprinter so he practises his dip.' Rooney was also surprised to be handed the baton in pole position after Green's fantastic effort. 'I saw Jack come down the home straight and I was like added Rooney. There is no clear favourite in the 4x400m relay and after the Dominican Republic were disqualified in their heat, Team GB who could still add Dai Greene to the mix have the potential to pick up a medal. In the following heat Jamaica did not finish after Jermaine Gonzalez, who had fitness concerns before the race, pulled up on the third leg.
