Why is League of Legends beating out all the other games similar to itIn terms of the genre it in, it easily the most "noob friendly". The MOBA/ARTS genre has some games that are incredibly hard to play, and incredibly high skill floors on certain champs/heroes. For example, in DotA, if you die, you lose gold while your opponents also gain gold. Your barracks (inhibitors in LoL) don respawn, and so on wow gold. DotA and HoN will punish very harshly if you do poorly.Meanwhile, the same is true in LoL, but far less so. You don lose gold for dying, inhibs will respawn wow po, and so on. The champs in LoL also are a bit more balanced for regular games while many champs in DotA are never seen, but still do incredible in pub games. Techies/Bloodseeker are great examples of this. The ability to flash to escape ganks can be used as a crutch in LoL, while nothing exists like that in DotA. Wards are cheap and used very frequently so you can see if people are going to gank you from quite the distance. DotA wards are incredibly expensive and limited.Throw in the fact that DotA 2 is still in closed beta so it doesn have the accessibility that LoL does. HoN and Starcraft 2 both take far more of a baseline skill in order to play well. So what you get is a massive userbase in comparison to them that can play the game and enjoy it despite not being amazing at it.Now combine the fact that Riot is actively trying to tie the regular users into watching these competitive events within the browser of the game itself, so you end up a large userbase with incredibly easy access to these competitive events, and you going to get incredible numbers watching the events.
