Jones Point New York Hikes gw2 gold Ys

Jones Point New York HikesA pretty hike from the famous Bear Mountain Inn and state park along Hessian Lake, to Perkins Memorial Tower and its 360-degree views, descending on the Appalachian Trail. Since its creation in 1913, millions of people have visited Bear Mountain State Park to indulge in George Perkins' version of "rest and relaxation," but only a fraction of them ever climb its namesake, the scenic "little" mountain lying west of Hessian Lake. Though not especially formidable at a modest 1,305 feet, Bear Mountain "feels" much bigger because of the steep northerly ascent from near sea level to its summit via the Major Welch Trail. Because of the elevation changes, this hike feels longer than it is, and you should prepare accordingly.A pretty hike from the famous Bear Mountain Inn and state park along Hessian Lake, to Perkins Memorial Tower and its 360-degree views, descending on the Appalachian Trail. Though not especially formidable at a modest 1,305 feet guild wars 2 gold, Bear Mountain "feels" much bigger because of the steep northerly ascent from near sea level to its summit via the Major Welch Trail. We came completely unaware of the insane steep hike up the mountain on rough mountain steps. It seemed never ending, but we were loving every minute. After the 1100 steps (for real) we started to hike up to the Perkins Tower, we passed deer and amazing scenic views of the Hudson River. We are just starting to get back into shape so it took us about 3.5 hours to get from ground level of Hessian Lake to the Perkins Tower, and then about 1 hour down. I would recommend it to anyone looking to get into shape while enjoying hiking. We will do this one again.I did this hike with a friend at the end of July. We started up the Major Welch Trail near Hessian Lake at the Bear Mountain State Park. We saw many white tail deer along the way and they were not shy whatsoever. There were some steep parts to the climb and a lot of exposed rock. There is a nice lookout about 3/4 of a mile from the actual summit with some beautiful views over the Hudson to the East. The summit is packed with people who drove up, always a bit of an annoyance, but the views were stunning and it was clear enough to see all the way to New York City 50 miles to the south. We took the AT down which brought us back to the park and to our car. Overall, it was an enjoyable, short hike and a nice way to spend the afternoon away from the city.My first hike since I was a kid. We went up the AT side of Bear Mountain. The views over the Hudson were incredible along the way. The road portions of the hike were dissapointing, but they did provide the best views, so it's tough to complain. Theview from Perkins Tower/the top of Bear Mountain is dissapointing. The views along the way were much much better. We hiked down the Major Welch. It was a much tougher trail. More climbing is involved than what I would thought a moderate trail would have. Its possible it just seemed that way because I was going down though. There were some older people and some out of shape people towards the top that seemed to have navigated it successfully so maybe I'm wrong. All trails were marked very well. No complaints there. Even as a beginner, I had no problem figuring out where i needed to be.4 miles took 2.5 hours (including climbing 56 steps to top of Perkins). We weren't necessarily hustling, but nor were we taking our time. Look forward to going back and doing the reverse loop.I did Bear Mountain with 3 friends (we're all out-of-shape teenage girls.) We went up Major Welch, to the top, and down Appalachian, and boy was it hard but fun!! (I think you're supposed to do it the opposite - App up and Welch down.) On Welch, we were constantly hiking on an incline, and even climbing rocks almost vertically at times. It was still fun, and towards the top, we'd stop once in a while to admire the amazing views. They were breathtaking gw2 gold, and really rewarding. It took us 4 hours up gw2 gold, but like i said we were out of shape and not hurrying. Appalachian down was easy compared Welch, with lots of steps. We did get lost once or twice when we were almost at the top, due to infrequent trail markers, but we quickly found the trail again each time. All in all, it was great hiking experience with rewarding views.
